How Positive Psychology tools help us to navigate life’s ups and downs, savour the good things, and enjoy the ride. Introductory post for Naturexpansion™ career coaching, life coaching, health coaching and energy healing services and website launch.
My cousin Audrey has just finished a two-week cycling and camping tour of the Gaspé Region in eastern Canada. Some days, she rode over 100 kilometres on her bike! Despite sometimes hilly terrain or heavy traffic, she persevered. One day, she inadvertently went in the wrong direction for quite a distance. Much of the time, though, she enjoyed the spectacular ocean views, local art and specialties, documenting her travels with wonderful pictures. Her trip was like a microcosm of life. Every day was a new adventure, bringing new delights, challenges, and opportunities to try new approaches.
Audrey drew on qualities such as determination and resilience, but she also soaked in the beauty of her surroundings, savoured offerings from local berry farms and ice-cream stands, and enjoyed the ride! These things will likely stay with her long after the early morning starts and late-night tent pitching has receded from memory.
Can you think of a time when you tackled something that was important to you and saw it through to completion? How rewarding did that feel, while you were doing it and when it was done? How easy was it to ride out the ups and downs?
I have long been drawn to the tools of Positive Psychology and their potential to improve our lives. Now that I use them in my coaching practice, I clearly see the difference they can make. I appreciate the focus on character strengths, flourishing, and cultivating the best within ourselves to enhance relationships, work and well-being.
While Positive Psychology encourages the expression of the full range of emotions, it does focus and build on what is going well in a person’s life. This often involves an exploration of values and what provides meaning and purpose. For each individual, this will be different, and homing in on what is right and authentic for you can be life-affirming in itself. I hope to expand on these themes and more in future blog posts.
I have been on a journey myself with both hilly and smooth terrain since 2015, when I completed a Certificate in Positive Psychology. My final project was a poster entitled “Living a Life True to Yourself.” Applying that learning, my coaching certification and previous experience, I am glad to say that I now help people to formulate goals that are significant for them and make meaningful progress toward those goals. I also offer energy healing services. I love the work, and find the interaction with my clients both satisfying and rewarding.
What makes you happy? What would make you look back and say, “That was an awesome journey”? Whether you have a concrete physical objective like Audrey had, or a large or small work-related, personal or wellness goal, feel free to contact me if you would like some support.
I am delighted to be launching my new website and hope you will find it easy and pleasant to navigate. I am so grateful for all the help and encouragement of so many along the way, including those who kindly provided testimonials. In particular, I would like to thank Louise Lalande of coCreations for her web design/building services, Tom Nadas of Celraph Consulting for web hosting and related IT services, Dennis Maloney for the photographs of me, and Denise Franche for translating most of the site into French. I appreciate you sharing your gifts with me!
